Trace
Tuscania, Italy / 2024
Trace is a blend of history and modernity, meticulously designed to honor the church’s past while providing a sanctuary for the present. This project tries to trace the history and the basic form of the existing building as a basis for making the new one. The facilities appear as a pure form to distinguish the old and the new, yet blend it well in the complex at the same time.
The design mirrors the dimensions and proportions of the existing church buildings, creating a seamless connection between past and present. Here, every arch and column echoes the historic grandeur, while contemporary elements ensure comfort and functionality. The intervention fills the void and the gap available to ensure it blends well with the existing environment. The new buildings re-composition the scattered existing buildings and embrace them simultaneously. The skyline of the new building is also traced by the height of the existing structure from the church, the tower, and the wall. It is an effort to ensure the composition is well from the city as well.
Trace becomes a vibrant hub of celebration, accommodating communal gatherings and ceremonies with ease. The flexible design adapts to the festive atmosphere, seamlessly blending with the historic charm of the church.
